Panyl’d Perfection: Customizing My Playroom Desk with Colorful Panyl Products
Awhile back I built a custom desk with four work stations from IKEA Micke towers. To date, it is my biggest project, and I am very proud of it. We use it daily and it has added a large amount of storage and organization options to our playroom. I have slowly been adding more personality to the space but I was lucky enough to receive a great opportunity from Panyl! They kindly offered to give my monochromatic creation a pop of color using their fantastic products! I might have done a happy dance…okay, I totally did a happy dance worthy of a cheesy home makeover show.
Panyl is a company that specializes in self adhesive furniture coverings, many of them compatible with Ikea pieces! I’ve been a huge fan for a while. The pre-cut, super durable vinyl is available in many colors, wood grains, and specialty patterns. No sanding, no priming, no painting. Just peel and stick to take your furniture from boring to bold!
With a bit of photoshop planning, I was ready to get started. I chose continue the rainbow theme with ten vibrant colors: cinnamon, red hot, sunburst, tangerine, lemon drop, emerald, malibu, azure, bubble gum, and violet.
The Panyl pieces are pre-cut to the item you are planning on covering. You can choose any of the furniture options currently available, or call to set up custom measurements. The vinyl is a bit thicker than your average craft vinyl, and has a textured matte feel that I ADORE! Plus, it boasts no VOCs, no fading or peeling, and NO MESS! I can also give a big shout out to their great customer service! It was a pleasure working with them on this project.
When you receive your order, you also receive a small “Practice Panyl” so that you can perfect your technique before you start your project, as well as clear instructions to guide you. You may want to have an old gift card (or something like that) to smooth out any bubbles that may form as you are placing your vinyl, but they include this extra awesome feature to make that easy: As you apply PANYL, air escapes through tiny, etched grooves in the adhesive layer. If you assemble IKEA furniture, you’re overqualified. The entire process was VERY simple and I was able to complete the entire project, which included placing 22 individual Panyls, in just under an hour and a half. Betcha you can’t do that with paint!
I am in LOVE! The desk has so much more personality!
My toddler gladly offered to test the durability of the Panyls (isn’t he so thoughtful?) and they are holding up amazingly well! While they are supposedly removable if you feel like changing it up, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
I love the ability to customize my desk! If a stranger walked into my home, they wouldn’t know that they weren’t part of the original design. I would be more than happy to use them again for other projects around the house (I already have one or two in mind) and I can recommend them with ease! Don’t just take MY word for it! Panyl is becoming a DIY favorite with bloggers around the web! If you have some basic furniture that you would like to update, I recommend that you give Panyl a shot. It’s quick, fun, non-messy, long lasting, and leaves a big impact! How much more can you ask for?
